Apple A16 Bionic processor design! Accept TSMC’s price increase, including 120,000-150,000 pieces of 4nm production capacity

On the morning of January 17, Apple A16 processor design” It is reported that Apple has completed the self-developed! it was reported that Apple accepted a price increase package to take down TSMC’s 120,000-150,000 4nm production capacity .

According to supply chain industry sources, Apple’s self-developed new-generation A16 application processor has completed the design and finalization , and will use TSMC’s 4nm N4P process for film production. It is expected to enter mass production at TSMC’s Fab 18 plant in the second half of the year.

It is reported that Apple’s A16 application processor will be equipped with products such as the new generation of iPhone 14 and iPad . Due to the shortage of wafer foundry capacity, Apple has accepted price increases to ensure production capacity, and has contracted TSMC’s 120,000-150,000 4nm production capacity.

According to industry sources, the average price of TSMC’s 16nm and optimized 12nm, 7nm and optimized 6nm, 5nm and optimized 4nm and other advanced processes will increase by about 8-10% in 2022 compared with 2021, and the price of 4nm used by Apple’s A16 processor will also increase. , but because it is the largest customer, the increase will be lower than other advanced process customers.

Apple A16 Bionic speculation

As per earlier reports, the A16 Bionic processor will use TSMC’s N4P process technology. This technology is actually an upgrade to the regular 5nm process. However, it is still below the 4nm process. TSMC had earlier planned to put 3nm process technology into mass production in the second half of 2022. However, TSMC has faced a bottleneck in the 3nm process technology project and may. that it may not be able to put it into mass production in time.
